This is community. This is Cape Breton University.

A diverse campus and welcoming environment are waiting for you at Cape Breton University. Here, you’ll get more than just a world-class education. You’ll build life-long friendships, gain global perspectives, and experience the vibrant culture of Cape Breton Island.

Live and study alongside students just like you from across Canada and from over 70 countries around the world while receiving the support you need to succeed.

The CBU main campus is located in Sydney, Nova Scotia’s second most populous city, on Cape Breton Island.  The Cape Breton community, although small in size, is big in opportunity. Here, you’re free to explore a welcoming island with warm people who see the same potential in you as you do in them.

July Intensives:

While classes in Sydney follow a traditional Fall and Winter semester structure, the CBU MBA is also delivered during the month of July in intensive Monday-Thursday two-week blocks, as well as Friday-Saturday weekends over 2 weekends.

This allows students more flexibility in course planning, including the opportunity to take MBA courses in the month of July to accelerate completion of their MBA degree, or, catch up with courses they may have missed in one of our off-campus venues.

Historically referred to as our “July Residency”, most July courses are now delivered in Dual-mode classrooms, allowing for both in-person and online attendees simultaneously.  That means students who miss courses delivered at our off-campus venues, can take July courses either in-person or online (please note that the class timings are based on the Atlantic time zone, so students taking July courses online need to adjust to any time zone differences).

With all core courses and several electives in the MBA curriculum offered every July, students can also take the entire MBA curriculum over successive July periods, either in-person or online:

CBU offers its unique MBA degree in several cities across Canada: Edmonton, Saskatoon, Brandon, Toronto, Kingston, and Sydney.  CBU also offers its program entirely online on weekends, allowing you to take the MBA anywhere you live and work.

The MBA in Community Economic Development has been offered by the Shannon School of Business at CBU since 1997 and is fully accredited by MPHEC (Maritime Provinces Higher Education Commission).
